Dear Teachers:
Here we are again, getting ready for our next Book Fair: November 29 to December 3, 2010.
The Book Fair opens during regular school hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Theme remains “Our Heroes”.
Once again, in order to motivate participation by the students and teachers, fun contests will continue as before.
ONE FOR BOOKS PROGRAM We still have our goal of collecting $700.00 with this program. Keep collecting the coins. Remember Scholastic matches the monetary donation the school generates and donates books to children and families in-need such as “Kids in Distressed Situation, Inc.”, “The Kids in Need Foundation” and “The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation”. It is a win-win situation for everyone involved. In addition, the money collected in every individual classroom are used to purchase books at this Book Fair for your class. We have a Pizza party coming up for the winning class.
GET MR. WITHERSPOON SLIMED We have a goal to sell $4,500 during our Book Fair. Achieving this goal will give five students an opportunity to slime Mr. Witherspoon at our December 17 Assembly.
“OUR HEROES WALL” We still have our mural across from the Library where kids are encouraged to post photographs and names of heroes they admire: historical figures, family members, community heroes like police officers, firefighters, military, city officials or athletes and the reasons they picked the individuals. We need three teachers as judges. Any volunteers from the “Language Arts” department?
BOOK FAIR HERO READING LOG Two weeks before the Fair, I will distribute reading logs for kids to keep track of their reading by listing titles, authors and minutes read. From the turned in logs, we will pick up a winner every day during the Book Fair. They will get an ice cream cone from Dairy Queen and small prizes.
HOW MANY PAGES ARE IN THE STACK CONTEST During the Book Fair, we will have a stack of books on a table, the students need to guess how many pages are in the stack. The winner will get a $10.00 gift certificate to spend at the Book Fair.
M&M CONTEST Students guess how many M&Ms are in a jar. The winner gets to keep the candy.
DAILY POSTER DRAWINGS When a student makes a purchase, we place their name in a drawing for a poster of their choice.
LITERACY AND MATH NIGHT On December 1st, our school is having a “Literacy and Math Night” in the gym. The Book Fair will be held at the gym at the same time. We are having a drawing of a gift certificate for the adults that attend that special night.
OTHER DRAWINGS
- One is for a gift certificate for a relative or student that spends $40.00 or more in the Book Fair.
- A second gift certificate awarded to a staff member that spends the same amount.
I wish to thank you for your valuable time and support.
